House Of Horrors Update

I am so tired, guys, all I can do is show you some pics I took today. The house looks worse that when I started "renovating".I will let the pics speak for themselves.

Problems so far:paint is supposed to be 1 liter covers 10m2 of wall so after my painters used 80 liters (and asked for another 20 liters)which should have covered 800m2 and my house is only 260m2 I politely asked them to leave.New painter starting on Monday. The two painters also hated each other so I put one inside and one outside and still the inside one threatened to stab the other one-this is true!!

My main contractor promised to be done with inside of house today and no,not done yet!!

The contractors laying the wooden floors had to be watched carefully in case they took my leftover wood so I ended up sitting and watching for three hours today.

The guy in charge of taking away rubble knocked down a wall which I loved and now is no more.It was a stone wall and it can never be re done because those stones are so very expensive to buy again.I could die....

Need I say more???

  1. WOW, this looks like an amazingly huge undertaking! I haven't been following your blog for long, but what's the story behind the house? Do you have an original blog entry I could check out? :)

  2. Hey
I just updated with a few links I did previously on this old house I bought to fix up and then move into.I never knew how hard it would be.I really thought it would be easier seeing as we are not living in the house until it is done(the renovations I did on my current house was always while we lived in it and THAT was stressful) but this time it's a much bigger job so it has turned out to be as bad with me losing my memory totaly due to the stress.I stop talking mid sentence and stare into space...coz I am thinking of something I forgot to do at the house.Tomorrow early morning I have to go buy tiles...

  5. Wow one painter wanted to stab the other, you nearly had your own true crime experience!
You have my sympathy, renovations can be a nightmare, but it will be worth it in the end.

  7. OMG Yvette,
Can you take the man that knocked your wall down to court? Make him pay for the repair of the wall, he should have insurance to cover it.

I have been through a renovation and the building of a new home, both are very stressful.

Shall I share my recent nightmare with the new home with you? We live on the lake and spent a huge amount of money for a stone seawall to be put in, it just so happened when it was time to put in the seawall, the lake was starting to freeze, but..the guy guaranteed that it wouldn't make a difference.

It made a huge difference, the stones started to fall into the lake, we're talking thousand pound stones. After two years of arguing with the guy, he shows up to fix our seawall, the week prior to Labor Day weekend. Bad timing for sure, since I had family coming from out of town, and family cookouts planned. We couldn't even begin to get to the boat, and the new sod we paid for when the house was completed, totally ruined. The sprinkler system also has to be redone. Should I go on? I told my husband if they got near any of my flower beds, I couldn't be held responsible for what I did to them.

They did the seawall right this time, but managed to forget to replace some of the stones we had along our driveway. They only weigh a couple thousand pounds...so they're coming back!

Sorry for writing a book, but I wanted you to know you are not alone in your nightmare! I have been where you are. Renovations suck!

Hang in there! Keep trying to envision how beautiful it will be someday. You will love your hardwood floors! I had our entire house done in hardwood...they're beautiful and easy to take care of.

    Wishing you the best.

    Cindy

  8. Thanks for the house update (I'd been wondering about it). I'm so sorry for all the grief you've been through regarding the house. I also agree with the previous poster that I would look into seeing if insurance would cover the damaged stone wall -- it really looked nice -- what was left of it :( I also like that it looks like the house has a lot of light -- at least from the pics. I think when it's is all done you will be able to laugh at this (eventually anyway). In the meantime have you ever watched Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House with Cary Grant & Mynra Loy? Its a favorite of mine & you might enjoy it.

    Hang in there!

  9. It will be lovely when all is said and done. My hubs is a do-it-your-selfer and he just finished putting in a hardwood floor-Two weeks of ripping up nasty carpets and sawdust everywhere-it was 100 percent worth it-I am so happy just looking at my gleaming new floors. :)

  12. Geez...painters using excessive paint (how much went on the walls and how much went out the door when they left?), painters that want to kill each other, flooring contractors that want to steal the left-overs, clean-up people causing damage and destruction, and contractors that can't be trusted. It sounds like the re-model project from hell! What is this world coming to?!?
